Dear Students,

A new backpack, school supplies, maybe some jitters - but also a whole bunch of new excitement and dreams in your eyes – yes, it’s back to school time!

As you start your new school year, make new friends, and connect with old, you’re moving forward in your journey not only to becoming an adult but also to becoming a contributing member of society. I know it’s hard to see the last part just yet but it’s in the making – even without you knowing it.

Because of YOU, the future looks brighter every day, every week, and every year. Because of YOU, I’m excited about the future.

Every year, back to school is my favorite season of the year. It brings together all the feelings: the loud joyousness of end-of-summer, the hunkering down that happens each fall before winter begins, and the distant hint of new-beginnings that happen each and every spring. There is no season, though, with so many hopes and dreams loaded in than back-to-school season. No matter the challenges around us (including unprecedented like COVID), back-to-school season is steadfast and arrives just-in-time. Nothing can dampen the excitement.

This year you will learn from your teachers and your peers. You’ll grow emotionally and socially. You will develop new skills and strengthen the old ones - both inside and outside classroom.

You will grow stronger and will shine brighter than ever.

Here’s my one advice for you: Use every opportunity you get, raise your hand, and say yes: Yes to volunteering. Yes to trying out a new musical instrument. Yes to giving another shot to a math problem that seemed too difficult yesterday.

Every day will be a new day and a new beginning with new opportunities. You will collect these experiences like tokens towards adventures yet to come!

Make the most of this school year and you’ll become the best possible version of you.
