Reflecting on Freedom in 2020
To say the least, 2020 has been a transformative year. Many entered the new decade hopeful for change, new adventures and prosperity. While all of those hopes remain a possibility, we were also confronted with challenges that could not be ignored: COVID-19 and racism.
Cirkled In is committed to helping students through the pandemic as they experience monumental moments from behind a computer screen. We’re also dedicated to standing by students, especially those of color, as they face the reality around them. As we approach July 4, the ultimate celebration of freedom in America, we can’t help but wonder: What does freedom really mean?
Of course, every person you ask would have a different answer to such a question. But for us, in an education space, this is the image of the ideal freedom: We envision a world where students, regardless of race, income, background, immigration status, or gender identity, have access to a safe and quality K-12 and higher education. A place where teachers are supported and given the tools and resources to ensure each can student grow and learn to their fullest capabilities. Equity. Where every student would have access to digital learning in the midst of a pandemic. An opportunity for all.
This July 4, as we live through a pandemic and continued protests for racial equality, we encourage everyone to reflect on what freedom truly means to them. Together, we will be able to create change. Together, we will make liberty and justice for all a reality.
