Schools are Slowly Reopening. How Can You be Prepared to Return?
March marks a year of living in the COVID-19 pandemic. While some of us can hardly believe it’s been a whole year, others are anxious to get back to school and work. Of course, that’s understandable! We miss our classrooms, friends, colleagues, and the feeling of community.
With all of the anxiety comes the thought: How DO we return? For students who have been distance learning for a year, there’s still a lot of unknown一How many days will I be back? Will I be safe? Can I hug my friends? How will it work with students who are still learning digitally? What about sports and clubs? I’ve been in my pajamas for a year, WHAT WILL I WEAR?
While we can’t answer all of those questions, here’s a short list of what you and your family can do to help the transition back to school:
Monitor your school and school district’s website for updates. Also watch their social media pages for quick information and to directly ask questions!
Communicate with your teachers. They are most likely just as anxious as you are to get back into the classroom and may have insight on your grade’s upcoming in-person class schedule.
Get yourself back on a schedule. We’re all used to waking up five minutes before a Zoom and logging on. Before school starts, try to wake up as if you had to prepare for the day.
Start shopping now, both for supplies you may need and something other than pjs. Remember to grab the matching mask for your outfit!
Discuss options with your family. Not ready to go back? Talk to your support system and ask what options are available for students who would like more time before returning to school.
